North Adelaide Baptist Church

Mission Statement

We, the members of the North Adelaide Baptist Church, are a gathered community of followers of Jesus Christ committed to:

  • worshipping the Tri-une God revealed by and in Jesus Christ;
  • deepening our faith and fellowship as a priesthood of believers;
  • proclaiming in life, in teaching and in preaching the Gospel of Christ;
  • enriching the ministries of the church; and
  • seeking the will of God in all our undertakings.

We see our role in the North Adelaide area as one where we need to be open in our interpretation of ministry so that we are best able to respond to needs in the community while remaining faithful to the Christ of the Christian scriptures. To this end we intend to monitor carefully the trends in our area, including changing demography and endeavour to keep our ministry relevant to revealed needs.

We recognise that the North Adelaide Baptist Church has built a tradition of informed preaching and fine musical content in dignified worship. We seek to perpetuate these traditions while looking for ways of developing the life of the church in order to maximise:

  • the effectiveness of the Christian education offered;
  • the appeal of worship to the community in which we are situated and to those who might be prepared to travel in order to participate in worship which meets their needs;
  • the social interaction of the church;
  • the number of Christians participating in the church’s various activities;
  • the variety of activities across the age ranges appropriate at any given time;
  • the number of people attending worship and applying for membership;
  • the opportunities available for presenting the Christian message;
  • the pastoral care ministry of the church;
  • the opportunities in worship and education for people to think through their faith;
  • the strengths of the church as from time to time we perceive them;
  • the relationship between the nature of our community, the appeal and style of our worship and the target(s) of our ministry.

We believe that present indications lead us to major in outreach upon families with children, middle-aged and retired people, those in professional occupations and single people, and those who are attracted by dignified (but not dull) worship with fine musical content and a high level of preaching. We recognise that these emphases could change in the light of changes in our congregation and in our community.
